On September 16, 2020, the Apache Software Foundation officially issued a resolution to promote Apache IoTDB to the global Top Level Project (TLP) following a public discussion vote by the community and a show of hands vote by the board. (Official Graduation Statement:https://s.apache.org/3xv3cIt marked that IoTDB has built a globally recognized international open source community and has become the only successful incubator project led by Chinese universities in the Apache community.

Since IoTDB has become the world's top project, the Tsinghua University team has served as the chairman of the project committee. They build an open source community together through collecting a series of domestic industrial data software service providers such as Ali, Dongfang Guoxin, Huawei, and UFIDA, and a series of international users and contributors from Germany, Brazil, and the United States.

Apache IoTDB version 0.8.0 is released, the first Apache certified release.

In 2019, Apache IoTDB successively won the title of the seventh Outstanding Big Data product, the first prize of the second Outstanding Open Source Project in China selected by the China Open Source Cloud Alliance, and the title of the most Popular Open Source Project in China.

In 2019, ranking the first place in database software. And it was posted on the theme as an important achivement in the China Industrial Internet Summit.

After a public vote by the Apache Software Foundation, IoTDB has officially become an incubator project under Apache, becoming the only Apache project initiated by Chinese universities. The project has attracted the attention of people from Germany, the United States, Australia and other international open source and Internet of Things circles and participated in the guidance and incubation.

In order to further achieve global collaborative innovation, the team made a proposal to Apache, the world's most famous open source software foundation in the field of big data, to set up the IoTDB project.

The release of IoTDB version 0.7.0 is the first version that can run stably for a long time under common loads, marking IoTDB's progress from a technology prototype to a software product.

Based on TsFile, the team began to develop IoTDB, an industrial IoT database that supports real-time reading, writing and analysis. In August of the same year, version 0.12 was released. With the support of the national key R&D plan "Big Data Management System for High-end Manufacturing", it began to develop applications in Goldwind, etc. Enterprises conduct technical verification.

  • March

On the basis of summarizing the previous experience, the team formally proposed TsFile, a columnar compact file storage format optimized for time series data, taking the first step to manage data autonomously from the bottom file structure, and open source it on Github.

Based on the previous work, the team proposed a compact storage technology prototype for time series data, and developed a new query and storage engine on the existing NoSQL products, forming the first-generation industrial IoT data management system. After continuous optimization, it is confirmed that the system performance is subject to the underlying NoSQL products, and it is difficult to further improve and control.

The team members began to practice massive machine data management in Sany Heavy Industry in the national 863 plan subject "Complex Equipment Condition Monitoring and Operation and Maintenance Service Support Software Platform Development", and chose to use open source NoSQL technology to replace Oracle. During the research and development process, I deeply felt the function and performance gap between the existing NoSQL technology and industrial IoT applications. At the same time, I found that there is a gap between independent innovation based on open source NoSQL and the international open source community, and there are problems in sustainable development.
